Training Programs

Westguard provides government-required Basic Security Training at our regional offices on a monthly basis. Our course ensures that all graduates meet the requirements of providing enhanced customer service, leading to greater employment opportunities.

We also provide opportunities for ongoing growth and professional development, with a wide selection of classes through our Advanced Training Centre and online learning platform, Securiguard University, including areas such as Occupational First Aid, Control Centre Monitoring and K9 Detection.

FAQs

Security Licensing and Training

The governments of British Columbia and Alberta require that all individuals working within the security industry complete a Basic Security Training course and obtain a Security Worker’s License. Securiguard is a recognized BST provider and runs Basic Security Training classes monthly.

You need to have a Security Worker’s License to work in the security industry however we will sponsor future employees to take the 40 hour / 5 day course. If you are interested in commencing your career in the security industry and feel you have the skills for the job, we encourage you to apply with us!

Providing a high level of customer service is becoming more and more critical to both security employers and their clients. In addition to covering all of the required course fundamentals, Securiguard has incorporated elements of our @yourservice concierge training, ensuring that you will excel in the delivery of customer service to both valued clients and customers.

The Basic Security Training Course can be completed online through the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC). Students will have 3 months to complete the course, which is 40 hours in length.

Completing the training course with Securiguard does not guarantee employment. However, all students who successfully complete the training program will have the opportunity to submit an application for employment. All applications are assessed on an individual basis.

Securiguard offers a wide array of opportunities at locations such as banks, office towers, industrial sites, airports, ports and schools. Please submit your cover letter and resume to the Branch Office indicated on our Careers portal and we will be in touch regarding available opportunities.

Our idea candidates take pride in delivering outstanding customer service and are great communicators and are great communicators. We are looking for motivated individuals who have a keen eye for observing exterior and interior premises, have a mature attitude and can stand for a duration of 8 hours. You will need to be comfortable with radio communication and able to write reports.

It is great to see applications involving experience in a security or a customer service environment. While we encourage applications from those beginning their career in security, having Basic Security Training (BST) or studies in the field of justice, public safety or criminology and certifications such as OFA 1 and OFA will make your application stand out.
